DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. -- Old U.S. Highway 52 is reopen after a crash Monday.

The crash happened at Old U.S. Hwy 52 and Holiday Road at the Welcome area.

A person in a late-90s Ford Explorer drove off from a license check without showing officers a license which led to a short chase, troopers say.

The suspect crashed and took down two power poles.

A grass fire then started when live wires caught the dry grass on fire.

The driver was taken to the hospital and is in an unknown condition as of right now.

The fire was put out by fire department officials.
