ETOWAH, N.C. — A 79-year-old woman is in the hospital after she says she was attacked by three dogs while she worked in her yard.
According to WLOS, the attack happened Friday when the dogs escaped beyond an invisible fence.
Lavada Reese was working in her garden at her home on Norris Road in the Etowah Community when the attack happened.
Family members say Reese is still in the hospital after she told deputies the dogs repeatedly mauled her.
“[The dogs] drug her approximately 12 to 15 feet in distance,” Capt. Steve Carter said. “There wasn’t a lot she could do, she couldn’t get to her phone, and she crawled to her house and called her brother to pick her up and take her to the hospital, very courageous lady it’s so unfortunate it happened.”
The dogs, a black and tan hound mix, a black Labrador retriever and a Beagle mix were placed in a mandatory 10-day rabies quarantine in the animal services center.
Officials say the dogs’ owners were not at home at the time of the attack.
The incident is still under investigation and no charges have been filed.
