An 85-year-old man is in critical condition after he was beaten and robbed at gunpoint in his Burlington home Monday night.

Burlington Police found Willie Moore Sr. unconscious in his home on Key Street around 9 p.m. Moore had a head injury and was taken to Alamance Regional Medical Center, police said.

Willie Moore's son, Rodney Moore, said he hid during the robbery and called 911. Rodney said two men wearing masks forced their way into the home, which they also share with his cousin.

Rodney said he heard a lot of commotion coming from the front of the house, but he didn't know what was going on at first.

But when he opened his bedroom door, he saw his cousin lying on the floor.

“I looked and saw the gun, and they told me, 'Come here,'” Rodney said.

Instead, Rodney said he ran back to his room and made the 911 call. When the two robbers finally left, Rodney found his father on the kitchen floor.

“I was saying, 'Daddy, Daddy? You alright, Daddy?' He was trying to talk. He was trying to get up, and he couldn't get up,” Rodney said.

The men stole his father's wallet and two of his guns, Rodney said.

“I just hope you get caught, because it doesn't make any sense to do things like that. My father is 85 years old,” Rodney said.

Police said the robbery was a random act, and they are still looking for the suspects. Both are described as black males wearing gray hooded sweatshirts.

One had black face covering, black cloth gloves and a gray semi-automatic handgun. The other had a dark blue bandana and black gloves.

Anyone with information on the incident or possible suspects is asked to call the Burlington Police Department at (336) 229-3500 or Crimestoppers at 229-7100.
