Officials have confirmed that 33-year-old Shane Evan Tomlinson, a graduate from East Carolina University, was among the 50 victims killed during the shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando on Sunday morning.
Tomlinson graduated from Northwest Cabarrus High School in 1999, and attended ECU, where he graduated from in December 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in communications and a minor in business administration. He lived in Orlando, and performed with his band Frequency on Saturday night, shortly before the tragic shooting, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
“We are saddened to learn that one of our own was killed in this tragedy in Orlando,” ECU Chancellor Steve Ballard said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Shane’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
ECU will hold a candlelight vigil for the university and Greenville community at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday at the Five Points Plaza. After the ceremony, the group will walk to the Greenville Town Common.
