LEXINGTON, N.C. -- A couple was arrested over the weekend after a night of drinking and an argument over presidential candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.

Deputies with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday responded to 3842 Old Hwy. 64 in Lexington in reference to a domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival, deputies met with Rachele Hodges, Bryan Hodges and Chad Hodges. All three had been drinking alcoholic beverages and had minor injuries from a physical assault during a political debate they were having about voting for Clinton and Trump.

Rachele Hodges, 39, assaulted her brother-in-law Chad Hodges by slapping him in the face.

She and her husband Bryan, 44, then began assaulting each other causing scratches and abrasions on each other.

Both Rachele and Bryan Hodges were arrested for assault and battery and placed in the Davidson County Jail under no bond.

Their court date is set for Sept. 12.
