WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Dixie Classic Fair kicks off Friday and it will include a new ride and new foods, especially the beloved fried fair food.

"Many people like it for the fact that it's bacon," said Tony Torres, a food vendor out of a Raleigh serving up a Twinx. "It's a Twinkies and Twix wrapped in bacon, shoved up the Twinkies, battered and deep fried with sugar on top."

It's been popular at other fairs but this is a first for the Dixie Classic Fair. Torres says they are also serving up a "Fry over the moon," which includes a number of cookies and cakes stacked on a MoonPie and deep fried.

Also new this year is a food vendor of just seafood.

While health inspectors checked out food vendors Thursday, state inspectors checked out the rides including the new Dream Ferris Wheel.

"It's got thousands of LED lights that light up the night and acrylic sides all around it so you can see down to the ground," said Craig Fishel, with the Dixie Classic Fair. "We think its going to be a big hit this year."

Winston-Salem police will try out all the games Friday morning to make sure you can win them. The fair opens Friday morning at 11 a.m. For more information visit dcfair.com.
