NEW ORLEANS -- Two people, including a convicted sex offender from Surry County, are suspects in the death of a New Orleans stripper whose body parts recently washed ashore on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, an investigator said.

Terry Christopher Speaks, 39, and his girlfriend, Margaret Sanchez, 28, are being held on charges unrelated to the death of Jaren Lockhart, 22, said Glenn Grannan, chief investigator for the Hancock County, Miss., sheriff's office.

Speaks served four years in prison after he was convicted in 2003 in Surry on three counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor, state prison records show.

An indictment in U.S. District Court in Greensboro said he was accused in Surry of failing to register as a sex offender after his release. Speaks was in federal custody Wednesday on an N.C. warrant accusing him of failing to register.

Speaks and Sanchez were seen on a video from the club where Lockhart worked and they left with her early June 6, Hancock County investigators said.
