GREENSBORO, N.C.–Starting next weekend, February One Place in Greensboro will be blocked off and lights, live music and vendors will fill the street as part of a pop-up promenade that will try to entice people downtown.

“I want to see the city not be the little brother to Raleigh, Charlotte or Winston,” said Joseph Morris, manager of Fincastles in downtown Greensboro.

He knows a great downtown helps his business.

“I want to see more events. They don’t have to be huge events, just events that draw people downtown,” Morris said.

In east Greensboro, the city has talked about trying to add more businesses, like grocery stores.

“We got a lot of empty building around here that should be renovated again. Quite a few of them around here. It’s kind of ridiculous,” said one resident.

Two sides of the city that are each aware there’s a lot more potential, but realizing it takes small steps to get the big picture.
