ASHEVILLE, N.C. — A Buncombe County sheriff’s deputy has resigned from the sheriff’s office after he was charged with driving while impaired over the weekend.
Authorities say 31-year-old Jeremy William Cabe was arrested by Asheville police around 2:15 a.m. Sunday and charged with driving while impaired and failure to stop for a red light.
Police say Cabe was less than a mile from his home when he was stopped.
The sheriff’s office says Cabe submitted his resignation Monday.
He was hired in July 2005 as dispatcher and promoted to patrol deputy in February 2008.
It wasn’t immediately known if Cabe had an attorney. He was released from jail on Sunday.
