YADKIN COUNTY, N.C. — A Mount Airy man was arrested after he allegedly stole a vehicle he sold last year and was driving when he struck another vehicle and fled the accident scene, according to a news release.

On April 6, a resident told deputies his vehicle was parked in his driveway on Dogwood Lane when he discovered it was missing.

After an investigation, deputies discovered the stolen vehicle was involved in a hit-and-run accident. The driver of the vehicle was found to be James Wyatt Akers, 23, of Mount Airy.

The victim told deputies he purchased the vehicle from Akers a year before the vehicle was stolen.

On April 15, Akers was arrested on one felony county of larceny of a motor vehicle in Yadkin County. He received a $5,000 bond and is being held in the detention center on related charges in Surry County.

His court date in Yadkin County is set for May 20.
