DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — A deputy shot a woman who allegedly took someone from a Sheetz with a knife, according to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office.

At about 10:45 p.m., deputies responded to a situation at the Sheetz at 8283 Old U.S. 52 in Welcome.

Deputies believe 45-year-old April Robertson entered the Sheetz and took a female employee hostage at knife-point.

A Davidson County deputy confronted Robertson and tried to diffuse the situation but fired when she would not drop the knife.

Deputies and EMS tried to provide aid, but Robertson died. The victim suffered minor injuries.

The deputy, a 9 year veteran of the department, will be placed on administrative leave while the State Bureau of Investigation investigates.
