ASHEBORO, N.C. — Deputies say a man and woman were arrested Sunday after they were caught stealing batteries from school buses at Eastern Randolph High School.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were on routine patrol when they learned several buses at the school, located at 390 Eastern Randolph Road in Ramseur, had been vandalized.

Deputies say they were looking into the vandalism when they noticed a woman hiding under one of the buses along with a backpack containing tools that were used to cut wires and remove batteries from the buses.

The woman, who was identified as 27-year-old Brandee Lorien Strider of Asheboro, was taken into custody.

Investigators then learned a second suspect, 33-year-old Jody Ryan Cox of Asheboro, had fled the scene.  Deputies said Cox was later arrested, but they did not say where or when.

Both suspects are charged with three counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, possession of burglary tools, two counts of misdemeanor larceny, attempted larceny, and injury to personal property.

They have both been released on secured bonds.
