Deputies: 22-year-old arrested after trying to avoid checkpoint

ARCADIA, N.C. — Deputies say a 22-year-old was arrested Sunday after he attempted to avoid a driver’s license checkpoint in Davidson County.

Deputies with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office say they were conducting the checkpoint in the 11000 block of N.C. Highway 150 North on Sunday when a black Ford Ranger turned around in the middle of the roadway about 150 yards away.

Deputies say they pursued the pickup truck, which stopped “after a short chase.”

The driver, Carl Wayne Boardwine of Clemmons, was found to be in possession of a concealed weapon and an open alcoholic beverage, deputies said.

Boardwine is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, open container in passenger area and misdemeanor flee and elude.

He was issued a $10,000 unsecured bond with a court date set for June 12.
