SALISBURY, N.C. — Students and staff at Davie County High School today are mourning the death of Lynn Tutterow, a popular teacher.

Tutterow, 57, was one of two people killed in an automobile accident on Jake Alexander Boulevard in Salisbury on Tuesday, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.

According to the Salisbury Police Department, a truck driven by Brian Keith Hall ran into the back of a stopped Honda Accord.

Tutterow and the other passenger in the backseat of the Accord, Hattie Smith McCulloh, 93, of Advance, were killed.

A passenger in the Accord, Vivian McCulloh, 62, was flown to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. She is in stable condition, according to Capt. Sheila Lingle. The driver, Pamela McCulloh, 61, was taken to Novant Rowan Medical Center. Her condition was not available.

The driver was not injured.

Tutterow taught social studies at Davie High. She had two daughters, Caitlin, a graduate of Duke University, and Annalee, a student at Davidson College.

The staff at the high school told students about Tutterow’s death this morning, said Stephanie Koefoed, a spokesperson for Davie County Schools. Grief counselors and ministers will be at the school all day, she said.
