Davidson Co. man charged with first-degree rape of a child

DENTON, N.C. — Two people have been charged in connection with abuse of a child, one of whom is also charged with rape of a child.

James Wesley Gray, 43, of Denton, is charged with first-degree rape of a child, first-degree sex offense with a child, indecent liberties with a child, felony child abuse – sexual act, two counts of misdemeanor child abuse and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. He was also served with a warrant for failure to appear out of Rockingham County.

Cheryl Ann Gray, 45, of Denton, is charged with misdemeanor child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

James Gray was placed in the Davidson County jail under a $750,000 bond as well a $2,000 bond for the failure to appear charge.

Cheryl Gray was placed in the Davidson County Jail under a $5,000 bond.

Both are scheduled to appear in court in Lexington on Nov. 18.
