GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. – A student from Southern Guilford High School died Thursday after collapsing during cross-country practice.
The student has been identified as Allison Brown, 14, an incoming freshman at the school, according to the school system’s spokeswoman, Nora Murray.
Crews were called to the school at 5700 Drake Road at 9:15 a.m. when the student collapsed.
Brown was immediately rushed to the hospital. A cause of death has not been released.
Principal Debbie Kraszeski said Thursday afternoon she was “deeply saddened by the loss of Allison Brown.”
“The community is very strong and we`ve been in touch with family and friends and students and parents,” she said. “We`re reaching out to everybody as often as much as we can.”
Grief counselors will be available at the school starting at 9 a.m. Friday.
