STANLEY COUNTY, N.C. — Crews responded to a fire at Badin Lake on Monday afternoon.

According to the North Carolina Forest Service, the fire happened on Graveyard Island, near where Old Whitney Road ends.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

Because there are no dwellings, crews will light the perimeter of the island and let the fire burn itself out.

Because of the amount of leaves, pine straw, other foliage and heat, it is too difficult to create a line, the Forest Service said.
