WAKE COUNTY — Firefighters were called to the Duke Energy’s Harris Nuclear Power Plant early Wednesday morning after a fire in a chemical room.

Emergency crews arrived at the plant around 5 a.m. after an employee said an industrial washer was on fire.

Officials told WTVD that the washing machine was in a commercial property buildings outside of the “power block,” but was near cleaning supplies and chemicals.

No one was hurt during the incident, and no evacuations were issued.

It is unclear what caused the washer to ignite.

The single-unit, 900-megawatt Harris Nuclear Plant is located about 25 miles southwest of Raleigh.
