FRANKLINTON, N.C. — A man accused of fatally shooting his estranged girlfriend in the parking lot of a Food Lion had been arrested 89 times before, according to court documents.

Garry Yarborough has a lengthy criminal record including drug charges and an accessory to a murder charge. Authorities said there are a series of documented complaints of domestic abuse within the past year between Yarborough and Tracy Williams, his estranged girlfriend.

In April, a warrant was issued for Yarborough’s arrest in Johnston County on assault charges after he allegedly bit Williams and held a knife to her throat while threatening to kill her. Earlier this month, she sought a protective order against him.

Police found Williams’ body in the parking lot of a Food Lion on U.S. 1 near a Cash Points ATM Sunday evening.
