FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. — A man and woman are accused of trying to sell their baby to buy drugs, according to WSAZ.

Ashley Nichole Harmon, 25, and her fiancée, Jonathan Isaac Lucas Flint, 20, both of Layland, West Virginia, face charges in the incident.

Both have been charged with selling or attempting to sell a child and gross child neglect creating a risk of bodily injury or death to a child.

The couple is accused of going to a home and trying to sell their 3-month-old baby to somebody for between $500 and $1,000.

When the woman who answered the door refused to buy the baby, the couple allegedly asked her to babysit the child. The woman did, and when the couple returned the next day, the baby was in the custody of child protective services.

Authorities said the baby would not stop crying and shaking and may have been suffering from drug withdraw.

Investigators believe the couple tried to sell the baby to get drug money. Both suspects were jailed under bonds of $100,000.
