THOMASVILLE, N.C. — A mother and her three children will have a warm place to sleep for a few nights, after going days without heat or water in their home.

Annie Powell and her children will be staying in a hotel until next week.

The room was paid for by a FOX8 viewer who saw her story and wanted to help.

“I don’t know what to say, I’m so thankful,” Powell said.

Powell lives in a mobile home which has no heat or running water.

She and her children sleep on a mattress surrounded by space heaters which don’t provide much warmth.

The story aired on FOX8 Thursday and within hours nearly 100 phone calls and dozens of emails poured into the newsroom, offering help.

“It was just a relief to know that me and the kids are going to be OK,” she said. “We’re going to be warm. We’re going to have warm water for bottles, to bathe. We’re not going to wake up with icicles on the ceiling.”

Powell’s landlord said they can’t fix the frozen pipes until the weather gets warmer.

They also said they’d check to see if they could put Powell in a hotel room until the repairs are made in her home.
