GREENSBORO, N.C. — The UNC-Greensboro Chancellor Search Committee on Monday took a look at the early applicants for the university’s top job, held a videoconference with UNC system President Tom Ross, and enlisted more aid in evaluating some later candidates.

Here are some highlights of the meeting:

The candidate pool: Search consultant Bill Funk told the committee that ads in national higher education publications have produced 12 applicants. Funk said his own networking yielded eight more applicants. Of those 20, Funk called five or six of them “viable candidates.”

Funk, who is based in Dallas, told the committee to expect to see 20 or 30 more applicants by the April 1 deadline.

“We’re very pleased with where we are,” Funk said. “Hopefully, you’ll be pleased with some of the names you’ll see.”
