BURLINGTON, N.C. -- Comic book readers and collectors have their sights set on Burlington. An auction that includes more than 5,000 comic books will be held at the Ramada Convention Center in October.

"Comic books are much like guns and coins and art, there are collectors for everything,” Auctioneer Joel Isley said.

Out of the thousands of books that will be up for grabs, one in particular is creating a lot of buzz.

"Spider-Man Vol. 1, Issue 1 has gotten a lot of attention,” Isley said.

Comic book experts say it’s not the rarest book in the Spider-Man series, but it’s certainly one worth having.

"It’s a pretty significant important book. It’s probably the second most desirable Spider-Man book next to Amazing Fantasy 15,” Jay Ewing, an associate at Acme Comics in Greensboro, said.

Ewing says a near mint copy could be worth around $60,000.

You can find the comic book online, but it can be difficult to find in stores.

“We don’t have them here very often. The last time that we had an Amazing Spider Man No. 1 here that we sold was about 10 years ago,” Ewing said.

When asked about how much the comic would probably be purchased for, Isley didn’t want to give a number.

"I'll be glad to call you up on Sunday morning and let you know what it did.”

The auction is Oct. 10 and 11. The Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 1, Issue 1 will be auctioned on Saturday Oct. 11.
