Closings and delays in the Piedmont Triad due to wintry weather

Stokes County Schools and Rockingham County Schools are closed on Monday. Guilford County Schools is on a 2-hour delay. Several others are also on a delay including Surry County and Davie County schools.

A wintry mix of snow, sleet and rain turned into freezing rain Saturday night and Sunday morning, leaving trees down and thousands without power in the area.

The icing was significant for parts of the Piedmont, resulting in ice forming and trees and power lines falling.

More than 21,000 in Forsyth County are without power. Crews are accessing the damage and have not provided estimated restoration times.

There are between 1,000 and 20,000 outages reported in Guilford, Wilkes, Stokes, Yadkin and Rockingham counties. The damage is still being accessed for those counties also.

A power outage had impacted much of the North Carolina A&T State University’s campus, but power has since been restored.

Driving conditions could be difficult. After a cloudy Sunday afternoon, some upper level spin could bring freezing drizzle early Monday morning.

Monday afternoon will be cloudy with highs in the upper-30s to lower-40s.

An additional 300 Duke Energy resources have been brought to the Triad to restore power, according to Duke Energy.
