GREENSBORO, N.C. — As one Piedmont ‘Idol’ contestant gets ready for Wednesday night’s live performance, another is getting ready to start a new tour and debut his new album.

Chris Daughtry has spent the last month in a Greensboro warehouse rehearsing for his “Break This Spell” tour, which starts in just a few weeks.

One of the tour’s stops is at the Greensboro Coliseum on April 7. It is the only arena on the tour this year.

“We’re getting to theaters and doing a bigger production in a smaller room, so in a way there’s not a bad seat in the house,” Chris said. “It’s a way of delivering an arena show into a theater setting. It normally sounds better. It normally has a more intimate vibe.”

He is also getting ready to debut his new single, “Outta My Head,” live on a future American Idol show. Chris rocketed to fame as a finalist in the show’s fifth season.

“It’s going to be weird, because this is the first time I’ve gone back to idol with the new lineup, so it’s kind of like going back to a high school reunion but it’s not your school,” Chris said.

As for the new album, Chris said the whole Daughtry band thinks it’s their best one yet. Chris said big changes at home, including the birth of twins who are now 15 months old, helped mold the band’s new sound.

“It felt more up and positive. I think a lot of that time off and experiencing childbirth two times in one day, a lot of that indirectly inspired the songs. Although they are not exactly about that,” Chris said.

Tickets are still available for the Greensboro show.

Chelsea Sorrell of Stokesdale will be among the 12 females performing live on ‘Idol’ Wednesday night. The two-hour show begins at 8 p.m. only on FOX8.
