WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Winston-Salem police said a 4-year-old child died at the hospital a day after colliding with a minivan.

Police said Joel Brienen Deonanan collided with a 2010 Toyota Sienna in the 900 block of Berryhill Lane around 6:22 p.m. Friday.

Authorities said the child sustained severe injuries and was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where he died on Saturday.

Officials said the woman driving the minivan was turning into her driveway at the time. Police did not say whether or not she could face charges.

The Winston-Salem Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit was notified and assumed the investigation, which has been the city’s tenth motor vehicle fatality this year.
