5-year-old dies in Fayetteville apartment fire, four others injured

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A child who was rescued from an apartment fire in Fayetteville has died, according to WTVD.

The fire started at the Old Shaw Road Duplexes just after 1 a.m. Thursday morning.

Authorities say no smoke detectors were found inside the home.

Crews rushed inside to rescue 5-year-old Zion Lilly,who was trapped inside the building.

He was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where he died from his injuries Thursday morning.

Four other children were injured in the blaze, but two were treated and released, according to authorities. The remaining two are in fair condition.

There were two adults and seven children in the home at the time of the fire.

The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation.
