CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating after the body of a male UNC Charlotte student was discovered in a parking garage Tuesday afternoon, according to the Niner Times.

The student, 19, was a resident of Hunt Hall and was discovered on level two of the South Village Parking Deck at 1:30 p.m.

The student’s family reportedly had not heard from him for a consecutive number of days and notified authorities.

An investigation was started where police searched the student’s dorm room. When he was not found in his room, police then searched each level of the South Village Parking Deck, where his car was reported to be.

The student’s body was found inside his car. The body was removed and the car was towed.

“CMPD is investigating a sudden death on campus. The death is not suspicious nor is foul play suspected,” UNC Charlotte Chief of Police Jeffrey Baker told the Niner Times. “There was no threat to the campus community nor were services interrupted at any time.”

The student’s identity and cause of death have not been released.

Jacklyn Simpson, associate vice chancellor and director of Housing and Residence Life released this statement to UNC Charlotte residents:

We are writing our community to share the sad news of the death of a Hunt Hall resident. We ask that you join us in keeping this student’s family in your prayers.

At this time the incident is under investigation and our information is limited. It is important to know that at no time was there danger to the campus community.
