WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners decided in an informal vote Thursday afternoon to keep the Central Library at its current site.
A majority of the commissioners, in a show of hands, voted to keep the library on Fifth Street and renovate the building. That was listed as the least expensive option, which was the key factor in the decision by commissioners Richard Linville, Gloria Whisenhunt, Bill Whiteheart and Mark Baker to support that option.
Commissioners Dave Plyler, Walter Marshall and Everette Witherspoon wanted the library to be placed at the site of the former Sheriff’s Office building.
The site selection did not require a formal vote. The county will start the process of finding an architect to work on renovating the current library.
