EDEN, N.C. — Authorities seized the car of a burglary suspect under a new state law after police said he led an officer on a brief vehicle pursuit.

In a news release, police said Shaun Michael Gearhart, 26, didn’t stop when an officer tried to stop him in his white Chevrolet Caprice on Hundley Drive around 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Police said the officer was attempting to serve Gearhart with warrants for first-degree burglary.  The officer quit chasing the vehicle, but the suspect was arrested about 45 minutes later at his home on Piedmont Street, police said.

Gearhart was charged with first-degree burglary and flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle.  His car was also seized police, which is required under a state law enacted last December.

The suspect was jailed under a $50,000 secured bond.

Police said they are also seeking another suspect in connection with the burglary charges.  Anyone with information about the whereabouts of 32-year-old Roger Dale Pruitt Jr. is asked to call police at (336) 623-9240.
