A woman who said she was pepper-sprayed and robbed at a McDonald's in Burlington Dec. 24 has been charged with helping plan the crime.

Sheena Marie Wheeler, 27, of Burlington, reported that she left the restaurant at 1471 University Drive around noon to make a bank deposit when the robbery occurred.

The suspect fled the scene in a Toyota Camry heading west on I-40 with her purse which had a bank deposit for the restaurant, police said.

A witness followed the suspect vehicle while providing information to the Burlington Police.

Police found the car in Greensboro without the suspects. The vehicle was seized as evidence.

Police now allege that Wheeler was in contact with one of the suspects and assisted in the planning of the alleged robbery.

Wheeler was arrested at her home on Rauhut Street and charged with one count of larceny by employee and false report to police.

She received a $5,000 secured bond and was placed in the Alamance County Jail.

Police did not say specifically what led to the charges. The investigation is ongoing.
