BURLINGTON, N.C. — A woman was arrested Wednesday after police say she ran her ex-girlfriend off the road and repeatedly rammed her vehicle, causing her to collide with a tree.
Police say Latoya Rashawn Murphy 28, of South Church Street, Burlington, began to follow her ex-girlfriend Rashaunda Pettiford 29, also of Burlington, on Trollinger Street, when Murphy used her vehicle to repeatedly assault and intentionally ram Pettiford’s vehicle.
Pettiford attempted to flee the area and drive to the police department for help, but was forced off the road and head-on into a tree on West Webb Avenue.
Murphy fled the area and was stopped a couple of blocks away from the crash site, where she was taken in to custody.
According to the report, Murphy was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, injury to personal property and driving while license revoked and possession with the intent to sell and deliver cocaine.
Pettiford suffered injuries to her legs and her passenger, Natalia Gonzales, 28, of Burlington, suffered an injury to her right wrist.
Murphy was not injured during the incident and was given a $80,000 secure bond. Her first appearance in District Court on Oct. 10.
