BURLINGTON, N.C. — A Burlington woman was airlifted to the hospital after police said she lost control of her SUV and crashed into a house. 

Franjanetta Newman, 22, of 615 Center Ave., was driving a red 1995 Ford Explorer east on Tucker Street when she lost control and ran off the left side of the road in the 800 block around midnight Monday, police said. 

The SUV struck a tree in the front yard of a home at 836 Tucker St., then flipped on its side before coming to a halt on the front porch of the home, police said. 

Newman was pinned between the vehicle and part of the house, police said.  She was airlifted to UNC Chapel Hill Hospital after being freed by firefighters and EMS, police said.

Newman’s condition was not available as of 6 a.m. Monday. 

Nobody else was riding in the SUV, which was a total loss, police said. 

The collision also caused an estimated $15,000 in damage to the house, police said. 

The owners of the home were there at the time of the crash, but neither were injured, police said. 

Police are still investigating the crash.  It was not clear if charges are expected.
