BURLINGTON, N.C. – The City of Burlington has a population of just over 50,000 people and has grown steadily over the last 20 years.

The influx has city officials working on a new plan to get new residents involved in the community.

Right now the city is working on a program called “Belong in Burlington.” The idea is to invite all new residents to a quarterly event and help them navigate everything from what’s a city hall, to local businesses, jobs, volunteer opportunities and social events.

“If you get residents who are invested in the community they’re going to invest their money, their time, and their spirit into the community,” explained Rachel Kelly, one of the people heading up the program.

Kelly believes the program will not only make the lives of new residents easier and better, but it will help the city achieve greater long-term success.

Belong in Burlington is planned to launch early 2017.
