BURLINGTON, N.C. — Burlington police have identified the officer involved in a crash at the intersection of South Mebane Street and East Summit Avenue on Thursday as A.J. Davis.

The crash occurred at 6:22 p.m. when Davis was traveling southeast on Summit Avenue and attempting to make a turn onto South Mebane Street. Police say a vehicle operated by Santos Samuel Recino Erazo, was traveling on South Mebane Street when Davis failed to yield the right of way and pulled into Erazo’s path.

Both Davis and Erazo had their vision obstructed by a city transit van and they collided.

Both Erazo’s passenger, Efren Gonzalez Rodriguez, and Davis were taken to Alamance Regional Medical Center. Rodriguez is in stable condition and the officer has been released.

Erazo was charged with operating a motor vehicle with no operator’s license and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Burlington Police Department at (336) 229-3503.
