Burlington man charged with burglary, attempted rape

BURLINGTON, N.C. — A Burlington man accused of breaking into a woman’s apartment Saturday night and trying to sexually assault her has been arrested.

The Burlington Times-News reported that Jerry Lee Johnson Jr., 43, of Burlington, allegedly broke into a woman’s apartment on Grace Avenue just before midnight Sunday.

Authorities said he punched her during the attempted assault.

The suspect was charged with first-degree burglary, attempted second-degree rape, assault on a female and interfering with emergency communications.

The paper reported that he was also held in the Alamance County jail Sunday on a fugitive warrant, charging him with failure to register as a sex offender in Salem County, Va.
