BURLINGTON, N.C. — A Burlington man is in custody after his alleged involvement in a hit-and-run.

Ellis Baker Nicholson Jr., 61, is charged with felony hit-and-run, DWI, driving while license revoked and failure to yield right of way, according to a news release from the Burlington Police Department.

At 1:38 p.m. Monday, officers and EMS responded to the intersection of Elmira and Durham streets in reference to a vehicle accident.

William David Bowe, 48, of Burlington, was found at the scene suffering from injuries as a result of the crash.

According to the release, Bowe was operating a scooter west on Elmira Street when a gray pick-up truck traveling east on Elmira Street turned in front of him. The truck then fled the scene on Durham Street.

Bowe was transported to Moses Cone Hospital.

Multiple witnesses gave officers a description of the suspect vehicle.

Officers located a gray 1990 Mazda truck behind a residence in the 1000 block of Elm Street and Nicholson was subsequently arrested and charged.

As of 5:15 p.m., Bowe was in surgery, the release said. His condition was not released.

Nicholson was placed in the Alamance County Jail under a $10,500 secured bond.
