BURLINGTON, N.C. — One brave young man in Burlington got a warm welcome home on Saturday.

The city of Burlington welcomed Alj Jeffries with a huge celebration at the Burlington Royals Stadium. HealthBeMe, a social network aimed at connecting communities and helping people with wellness, organized the event.

Alj received a heart transplant last year -- and now he's finally home.

The Burlington mayor declared Saturday Alj day -- and gave him the key to the city.

There was live music, a video game tournament, and lots of food. Organizers also revealed gifts for Alj -- donated by the community.

“I can’t believe all this,” Alj said. “This is like crazy. This is amazing … I feel like I'm dreaming right now. I really feel like I'm dreaming.”

Alj was in UNC children's hospital for 127 days before he was released to go home.
