GREENSBORO, N.C. — Police say a woman whose body was found behind a Greensboro church in May was murdered.
Greensboro police spokeswoman Susan Danielsen on Wednesday identified the victim as 33-year-old Paula Joy Nicks of Brown Summit.
Nicks’ body was found on the morning of May 25 behind God’s House of Deliverance Church at 1212 Randolph St. Police did not publicly identify the body until Wednesday, but previously ruled the death “suspicious.”
Danielsen said detectives identified Nicks after family members came forward after seeing images of her in the media. Detectives then matched Nicks’ fingerprints with those on file with a police department in Virginia.
Nicks was not reported missing because she “frequently had extended absences from her family,” Danielsen said.
Danielsen did not say how Nicks died, but said investigators are still searching for whoever is responsible.
Anyone with further information is asked to call Crimestoppers at (336) 373-1000.
