WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A broken sewer line created a sinkhole that closed the eastbound lanes of Silas Creek Parkway near Hanes Mall for several hours Tuesday, a city official told the Winston-Salem Journal Thursday.

The sinkhole was 6-feet-wide and 13-feet deep, and opened near Hanes Mall Boulevard and Bolton Street, said Ron Hargrove, city utilities director. The lanes were reopened later Tuesday night.

Crews are expected to repair the broken sewer line within two weeks, Hargrove said.
