WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Some residents of the Brian Center Health and Retirement Community say staff told them they could stay after, just hours before, telling them they had to leave within 30 days.

“As soon as it started they stopped,” said resident Kenneth Edwards. “They decided not to make people move, I don’t know why.”

Edwards and other residents outside the facility told Fox8 Friday that residents were first told Thursday morning during a meeting they would have to move within 30 days. Residents said staff even gave them a list of places willing to take them in. But by the afternoon the plans had changed leaving some residents and their family confused and contacting FOX8.

“While there were management discussions previously about the possibly of moving in a different direction with the assisted living beds, we have decided at this time to continue to care for those residents at the facility who need assisted living services,” said Annaliese Impink, a spokesperson for the Brian Center in an email. “None of the residents have been discharged and there currently are no plans to discharge any resident who wishes to stay at the facility.”
