ROCKINGHAM, N.C. (AP) — Authorities say it could be months before they identify remains found by an amateur photographer at the bottom of a well at an abandoned Rockingham cotton mill.
The Richmond County Daily Journal reports that photographer Walt Burlington was poking around the mill earlier this month when he shined his flashlight into the well and saw a pair of pants with a rib cage sticking out.
Rockingham Police Chief Billy Kelly says the remains have been sent to the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office, which told him it could takes months to identify the person.
Kelly says his officers are looking over missing person reports to try and help the medical examiner.
