WILKES COUNTY, N.C. — A body was found Tuesday afternoon in the Yadkin River in Wilkes County.
The body is believed to be that of Ronald Leonard Watson III, 26, of Purlear, according to the Wilkes Journal-Patriot.
Watson had been the subject of a search in the river. The body was found two weeks to the day after police were told he drowned.
The body was found floating face down in the water against a fallen tree between North Wilkesboro’s Smoot and Memorial parks, the Journal-Patriot reports.
A family member first spotted the body on Tuesday afternoon. Family members had frequently been walking along the river since it was reported that Watson drowned.
Watson had reportedly been drinking before he entered the river on April 5, seeing if he could swim to the other side.
The body will be sent to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem for an autopsy to confirm the identity and determine the cause of death.
