GREENSBORO, N.C.– Promising high school basketball player Josh Level, 17, died of natural causes after he collapsed during a basketball game in February, his father Joesph Level told FOX8.
Josh had Myocarditis, a viral infection that causes inflammation of the heart muscle. The infection is believed to be the cause of 5 to 20% of all cases of sudden death in young adults.
Joesph Level tells FOX8, “While we [The Level Family] still grieve & agonize over Josh’s death, we are saddened, yet appreciative to know what happened to our son. And, we continue to heal & recover from the loss of such a beloved part of our family. We miss Josh more than anyone could ever imagine and our hearts ache to be reunited with him. Yet, the Lord said, ‘occupy until I come’ (Luke 19:13).”
Josh Level died at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center after he collapsed during a game at Quality Education Academy in Winston-Salem.
Level was a junior at New Garden Friends School in Greensboro.
