MACON COUNTY, N.C. — A Macon County man is facing several charges after he got into an 18-hour stand-off with sheriff’s deputies on Saturday.
According to WLOS, Robert Childs, 51, broke into his estranged wife’s home on Bryson City Road with an ax around noon on Saturday.
Sheriff Robbie Holland says Childs’ wife and son escaped out a back door while Childs got into a stand-off with police.
Early Sunday morning, deputies found Childs hiding in a bunker in the basement of the house.
Childs is charged with kidnapping, breaking and entering and domestic criminal trespassing.
He is being held without bond.
