ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — Authorities continued their search Wednesday for a man they believe robbed a Davidson County bank on Tuesday morning.
According to Davidson County Sheriff David Grice, the incident was reported at the NewBridge Bank on Old U.S. 52 in Welcome at 11:18 a.m. Tuesday.
The suspect, Randy Earl Asbury, 61, entered the bank, displayed a knife and fled the scene in a dark green Saturn with an undisclosed amount of cash.
He was later spotted in East Spencer.
Asbury led authorities on a brief chase that ended when he crashed and abandoned his vehicle in a wooded area near exit 79 off Interstate 85 in Rowan County.
According to a release, several outstanding warrants for armed robbery, felony larceny and misdemeanor larceny have been issued for Asbury’s arrest.
He is also wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service for failing to report to a halfway house in Charlotte.
Authorities say he is considered armed and dangerous.
Asbury is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 186 pounds. He has brown hair, hazel eyes and a tattoo on his left forearm.
