2 found dead in Wilkesboro apartment; deaths investigated as double homicide

WILKESBORO, N.C. — Authorities are investigating a double homicide in Wilkesboro.

On Sept. 7, officers were called to an apartment located at 1018 River Street to conducted a welfare check. The resident had not been heard from in four to five days.

When officers arrived they detected a strong odor coming from the apartment and realized the door was not locked.

After entering the apartment, authorities found signs of an altercation and then found a deceased man.

Officers also found a deceased woman after processing part of the crime scene. Both victims were in their mid-to-late 50s.

This incident is being investigated as a double homicide based on the evidence gathered at the scene.

The occupants of a 1992 Chevrolet pickup are wanted for questioning in this case. The pickup is dark blue or black in color and has the North Carolina license plate CBS-1405.

The pickup may belong to one of the victims.

Authorities are waiting for the state medical examiner’s office to release the names of the victims.
