Authorities capture escaped inmate in wooded area of Rowan County

LANDIS, N.C. — The inmate who escaped a minimum security unit in Polkton is back in custody.

Department of Public Safety Fugitive Officers and a K-9 unit captured 22-year-old Devin Brown around noon Wednesday in a wooded area of Landis.

Brown had escaped the Brown Creek Correctional Institution in Polkton about 12 hours earlier.

He was serving a nearly five-year sentence for habitual impaired driving and was scheduled for release in March 2019, according to a release from the North Carolina Department of Public Safety.
