Asheboro City Schools assistant coach accused of sexually assaulting student

ASHEBORO, N.C. — An assistant coach was arrested after deputies received a report of sexual assault from the mother of a 17-year-old female student at Asheboro High School.

On Nov. 11, the mother reported to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office that her daughter had a sexual encounter with a 25-year-old man who was employed with Asheboro City Schools as an assistant coach and substitute teacher.

Zachary Ross Chilton, 25, of Asheboro, has been charged with one count of sexual activity with a student.

Chilton is in the Randolph County Jail under a $1,000,000 secured bond.

Chilton was dismissed from Asheboro City Schools on Wednesday.

This investigation is ongoing and other charges are possible.
