ASHEBORO, N.C. — An arrest has been made in a weekend shooting in Asheboro.
Jessica Sierra Gannon, 20, of Asheboro, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, first-degree burglary, possession of stolen goods, larceny after breaking and entering and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
On Sunday at 10:57 p.m., Asheboro police officers responded to a report of a possible overdose at 735 S. Church St., Apt. H, in Asheboro. When officers arrived they located a male victim lying in on the floor.
Officers determined the victim was suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
The victim, identified as Adalberto Jimenez Ortiz, 29, of Asheboro, was transported to Randolph Hospital and subsequently airlifted to another local hospital. He was last listed in stable condition, Asheboro police said.
Further investigation revealed that the motive behind the crime was robbery. Two subjects knocked on the door and when Ortiz opened the door, demands were made for money, Asheboro police said. A struggle ensued and Ortiz was shot by one of the subjects.
On Wednesday night, Asheboro police said in a news release Gannon was tracked to a hotel in Siler City and, with the assistance of the Siler City Police Department, taken into custody.
Gannon was placed in the Randolph County Jail under a $125,000 secured bond.
